Independence Day celebrations are always fun, but this year the festivities continue throughout the month of July in observance of America’s 250th birthday. On July 8, many cities and towns are sponsoring a simultaneous public reading of the Declaration of Independence to commemorate the document’s first reading in Philadelphia’s Independence Square in 1776.
Here in Boston, the Sail250 international fleet of tall ships and military ships will be in the Harbor from July 11-July 16, completing a journey that began in New Orleans back in May, and stopping along the East Coast on the way.
“America…it is the only place where miracles not only happen, but where they happen all the time.”
— Thomas Wolfe, Of Time and the River
