Making Beautiful Memories Together

May is always a big month for celebrating milestones, such as college graduations and the unofficial start of summer. Now, it also will be the anniversary month for me and my new husband, Mark!

Last weekend, Mark and I got married in a small ceremony witnessed by our families and a few dear friends. Keeping the celebration on the smaller side meant we unfortunately missed some people, but as a second wedding for us both, the intimate celebration just felt right.

Sara and I have written about the kismet that can happen when friends and family worlds collide, and last weekend brought that to life in significant ways for me. I saw Mark’s and my respective brothers, both named Dan, bond over their shared careers in financial markets. One of Sara’s college besties, Marci, has become a close friend to me and a few of my Brady siblings over the years, making the occasion feel like an extended family reunion.

One of the sweetest moments was witnessing Mark’s two-year-old granddaughter and my seven-year-old niece strike up a friendship. Their quick connection reminded me of the joy found in discovering something unexpected, a sentiment young children seem to embrace more easily than world-weary adults.

From the moment I awoke on my wedding day, I was determined to embrace the day’s experience with a similar open mind. I was overcome by a sense of gratitude for all who had come to celebrate with me and Mark on this special day, sharing meaningful connections with us, and unforgettable moments. And with Sara officiating our wedding, and her daughter Rachel sharing her beautiful voice as I walked down the aisle, the day was truly perfect.

Being surrounded by so many loved ones reminded me to stay present, not just last weekend, but whenever I’m spending time with others. Bringing an open mind to meeting new people and approaching new experiences allows each new encounter to become special. And there’s nothing more precious than forming new connections, and savoring those that last a lifetime.

Sara pronounces us husband and wife!
A bonding moment between Fiona (7) and Shea (2).
