As we mark the final weekend of 2025, most of us are looking forward to 2026 and setting new goals while trying to put the challenges of 2025 behind us. But before we turn the page on the year, we’d like to reflect and share and some things that inspired us this year.
While 2025 was marked with change and uncertainty, we also saw significant medical breakthroughs, like animal organ transplants to humans and advances in early cancer detection using a simple spit test. We read stories of communities rallying to help those who lost SNAP benefits and immigrants under threat were aware of their rights under the law.
I was personally inspired by the story of an 80-year-old who became oldest woman to through-hike the Appalachian Trail. Reading about Betty Kellenberger’s successful hike in The Washington Post, I was impressed that despite encountering a few challenges along the way and a couple of false starts, she never gave up. And Ms. Kellenberger is inspiring others to get active: “I’ve heard from so many people who have gotten off their couch and have started to move.”
I’m also inspired by the growing interest in women’s sports, and not just among women. Marie Claire reported that “America’s WNBA reported a 130 per cent increase over four years in boys under 18 tuning in.”
At Language of Friendship, we encourage you to set aside some time to reflect and recognize the many things that inspired you in 2025. Sharing gratitude for the people who’ve made our journeys this year a little lighter and brighter.
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.
