Earlier this week, I was talking with a friend who has been actively involved for years with the Washington DC-based music non-profit Sitar Arts Center, which provides otherwise unavailable access to quality music education and fosters community. My friend was simply gushing about how enriching the experience of working with this organization has been for her. Not only has she been able to observe children expanding their horizons through the arts, but she has also created connections with others who believe strongly in the importance of music education.
Music is the universal language of mankind.
—Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Community arts organizations like Sitar provide so many opportunities to become involved with music and create connection. I know my own three children would say their lives have been greatly enriched by their involvement in our local music community, and so far, they have continued to find happiness and fulfillment through their musical adventures as they move into adulthood.
Julia and I have both written about meaningful musical experiences that we’ve enjoyed with friends. Now that “stick season” is ending and outdoor concerts/festivals are being announced, we hope you’ll find some musical activities to feed your soul and your friendships in the coming months.
