Spring Fever

This time of year always finds me feeling beyond ready for warmer weather and signs of spring. I’ve been inspired this week by the budding trees and flowering shrubs in my neighborhood, so I’ve made a list of ways we can all enjoy this season with our friends. Feel free to share any ideas of your own in the comments!

Spring is nature’s way of saying “Let’s Party!”

Head outside: Where I live, it’s still a bit chilly for outdoor swimming but pretty much anything else is fair game. You can walk, bike, hike, fish or sail. Or, grab a picnic basket, fill it with your favorite meal and head to a park with a friend.

Get a pedicure: What better way is there to get ready for sandal season than getting your feet buffed and polished? Not only are they a great way to relax, but pedicures also are an excellent form of self-care–boosting both your circulation and your mood.

Participate in a community fun-run or walk: Spring is chock-full of these events that offer an active way to raise money for your favorite charity while being outside and connecting with others. You don’t have to be fast or a marathon runner to enjoy the journey. To find an event near you, check out letsdothis.com.

Plant a garden: Even if you don’t have much outdoor space, a small pot is all you need to try a plant or two and see what happens. I enjoy experimenting with a few vegetable plants each spring, even if the results are usually less than bountiful! And often these projects involve a friend or two pitching in with advice or help.

Go to a Farmer’s Market: Roaming around a local farmer’s market with a friend is a great way to spend a spring weekend morning and buy fresh produce, honey and many other goodies. The many delicacies I’ve sampled at my local market include bone broth, fresh lemonade and exotic vegetables. Check out the National Directory to find a market near you.
